HaatE/Breed: The Forlorn Majesty/2015 Full Length Review

   HaatE  are  a  solo  project  from  Italy  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  metal  and  dark  ambient  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2015  album  "Breed:  The  Forlorn  Majesty"  which will  be  released  on  June  27th.

  Nature  and  water  sounds  start  off  the  album  before  adding  in  some  heavy  guitars  and  atmospheric  sounds  as well  as  a great  amount  of  synths  and  all  3  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic in  length  and  after  awhile  grim  screams  make  their  presence  known  on  the  recording  and  the songs  also  mix in  elements  of  experimental  and  ambient  music.

  Throughout  the  recording  the  music  alternates  between  both  the  ambient  and  black  metal  parts  and  some  of  the  guitar  riffs also  bring  in   small  amount  of  depressive  and  atmospheric  melodies and  spoken  word  samples  also  make  a return in certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  all  of  the  songs  stick  to  a  very  slow  and  melancholic  musical  direction  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads  and  the  last  track  is  an  all  instrumental  ambient  piece.

  HaatE  continues  the  dark  ambient  sound  of  previous  recordings  while  also  keeping  around  the  black  metal  vocals  and  also  adding  in  guitars  this  time  around  and  more  elements  of  the  depressive  and  atmospheric  side  of the  black  metal  genre  to  create  a  very  dark  and  melancholic  recording,  the  song  themes  focus  on  darkness  while  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  for  being  a  self  released  recording.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  HaatE  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dark  ambient  and  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Ritual  Of  The  Crystal  Flame".  8  out  of  10.

Bhagavat Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
Maelstrom: Bhagavat is a black metal project born as a one man band in 2007. In the beginning the sound was meant to be more Swedish-like. However, as you might imagine, the most diverse influences coming from Vama's interests and the inception of new members, made the band what is today. We don't pose ourselves limits during writing, and music and lyrics are always meant as a whole, a journey through the inner darkness of life and man's tendency to oblivion.


2.How would you describe your musical sound?
Vama: Briefly our sound can be defined as a violent mixture of black and death metal elements. Lately, I started to leave the typical "scandinavian sound" and working more on dissonances and odd time patterns which are considered by most atypical for the genre. Without going too much into details, I can say that in the last 10 years I was sharing and appreciating the stylistic choices of acts such as Deathspell Omega, Arkhon Infaustus, Abigor, just to mention the first ones which come to my mind. What counts more are not the ways or the tools you use for achieving something in art, but is the final result, which must be simply crushing, disturbing and morbid.


3.The band has been around for 8 years but so far have only released one demo and a full length, can you tell us a little bit more about the gap between releases? Vama: Good question, well as I mentioned before, Bhagavat started as a one-man band, and the research of band members in order to establish an efficient line up was a long task. Many people entered and left the band for several reasons. The songwriting and recording of the album took time as well so the project faced some periods of inactivity and some of readjustment. Moreover, nowadays the band members are spreaded across Europe because of work, so this adds further complications from the logistic point of view and it considerably slows down the creative process, but we're still alive and ready to destroy your faces.




4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
Maelstom: Lyrics are basically inspired by whatever deeply fascinates and interests us, nightmares, the great mystery behind life and death, the generation ex-nihilo, the power of subconscious and the most hidden sights of human mind and the miserable destiny of living beings just to mention a few elements.
Vama: Two songs from Annunciazione also deal with two dramatic losses, close friends of mine who passed away. These songs are my tribute to them, I let the listener understand which one are those. I can say that in the lyrics I try to put a lot of my inner subjective feelings and screw all those cliches which in my opinion turned black metal music into a carnival parade.




5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Bhagavat'?
Vama: Bhagavat is a Sanskrit word meaning "glorious lord". It's a tribute to the Indian poem "Bhagavad-gita" which is a constant source of inspiration in my daylife and in what I create.


6.Originally the band started out as a solo project, what was the decision behind forming a full line up?
As most of the young enthusiastic metalheads, I simply started playing with a DAW, recording my guitar riffs and programming drums at my place. Then I realized that the songs might have been suitable for a live context, being very aggressive and originally structured. Since that, the research of new members to expand the line-up started.


7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
Maelstrom: We still didn't have the chance to perform an intense live campaign but we always meant our live shows to be meaningful ones. I have to say that everytime, the response from the audience was great. Our performances are essential...We are not into corpse painting, theatrical effects, or fancy announcements...we just go on stage, and vomit black hatred straight on the audience's face, blast-beats and evil.


8.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
Vama: Not at the moment but it's in our plans, we're relying on Rockshot Music for that and soon something will be announced.


9.Currently the band is signed to Rockshots Music, can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
Maelstom: I have been knowing the guys from Rockshots for years now, and it seemed for us the best way to move forward with the promotion of the band. This for us doesn't mean fancy "social bullshit" but being able to reach out to a bigger audience and let them decide for themselves about our music.


10.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black and death metal?
Vama: So far I think that Bhagavat project is mainly known in the Italian underground scene. Of course we've been already contacted by fans all over the world who had the chance to listen to our album but surely I can't say we're known on a worldwide level yet. 

11.When can we expect new material and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Maelstrom: We just started promoting our first full length so we don't have plans for new material release, we had to deal with some personal issues in the last few years so the writing process has slowed down, but we have been already composing new material. Musically and lyrically we are moving in the same direction started with Annunciazione, this will be a deeper journey into human suffering.


12.What are some of the band or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Vama: It's very hard to answer because I'm a big fan of so many projects or musicians that I don't know from where to start. I can maybe mention some of the non-metal music that I listen to. For instance, I painstakingly follow a label called Miasmah established by Erik Skodvin, which in my opinion offers some of the best ambient releases you can find around and I invite the reader to check out their website. I also often listen to contemporary composers such as Ligeti, Shostakovich, Olivier Messiaen, Arvo Part etc, I think they can offer very interesting inspiration to extreme musicians as well. And finally, just to mention few extreme releases which recently came out and left me speechless, I found Imperial Triumphant's "Abyssal gods" and Leviathan "Scar sighted" to be pure agony and nightmares transposed into music, absolutely top releases.

13.What are some of your non musical interests?
Vama: Beside music, I am very interested in visual arts and recently endorsed painting. Let's say that this activity represents for me the second face of Bhagavat, giving me the chance to express similar feelings but through another mean. Vicar/Demo 2015 Review

  Vicar  are  a  solo  project from  Oregon  that  plays a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2015  demo.

  Melodic  and  ritualistic  chanting  starts  off  the  demo  and  after  the intro  clean  playing  is  added into  the  music  briefly  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavy  and  raw  style  direction  that  also  introduces  grim  high  pitched  screams  onto  the  recording  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  good  mixture  of  both  clean  and  heavy  parts.

  Most  of  the  music  is  rooted  in  the  raw  second  wave  style  of  black  metal  and  also  brings  in  dark  sounding  melodies  at  times  that  also  gives  the  music  more  of  an evil  and  occult  atmosphere  and  most  of  the  songs  stick  to  mostly  a  slow  or  mid  paced  direction  while  the  music  does  also  speed  up  and  get  fast  on  some  tracks  along  with  the  vocals  also  getting  deep  and  demonic in  some  parts  of  the  songs  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  being  added  onto  a  alter  track.

  Vicar  plays  a  style  of  occult  black  metal  that  is  very  dark  and  raw  and  also  strays  away  from  what  you  would  expect  from a  Northwestern  band,  the  production  sounds  very  dark and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Hermiticism, Ceremonial  Magick and  Left  Hand  Path  themes.

  In  my opinion  Vicar  are  a  very  great  sounding  occult  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you are  a  fan  of  this  musical genre,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Upon  A  Blackened  Mountain"  and  "Seven  Principles".  8  out  of  10.

Permafrost Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?
After the recording we started to rehearse for some small gigs and now we are working
on new stuff.

2.Recently you have released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
All of our releases are small pieces of a never ending puzzle. All pieces are different and symbolize other parts of the whole picture. With every release we are getting closer to that what we want to be (spirituality/sound/lyrics/professionality and so on)

3.Your lyrics cover a great amount of satanic, luciferian and occult themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in these topics?
All my life I was searching for more than this normal/profane life and I always felt there is more behind the mask. Since I was young I sensed something dark and in all ways negative to the world of matter. It encompasses us, it is in me and so I started to get in contact with this forces in all possible ways.
All of our lyrics on Spiritual Isolation are about this forces. It´s all about the end of this world and how I can get part of its destroying. I try to give no focus on other aspects, because for me black metal must be satanic and destructive in all ways!

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Permafrost'?
For me it's that part of me/heart/soul that is not human and frozen to death!

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
We are no performers! We are Maniac´s the last years we didn’t played much live, but the best show (for me personally) was the Show with Nawaharjan this year!

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
No, unfortunately there are only some small concerts we play the next time...but if someone is interested to book permafrost should contact us.


7.The new album was self released but the band has experiences working with labels, are you open to working with another label again in the future or do you prefer the independent route  a lot more?
The new album is co-released by DTB Records and Knochensack. If you work with underground labels you always have the freedom you need as band. So we will again release our stuff on a label in the future.

8.One of the band members also runs 'Satan Fights Humanity Records' what are some of the current bands that you are working with on the label and what are some of the releases you plan to release during the later part of 2015?
 FH-Rec. is more or less on hold. I will only release some tapes in future but I don’t have the time for the work with the label. And if you don’t have the time you should stop  it, money doesn't matter! I want to support the bands on the label as good as I can and I feel at this point it’s not enough.

9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to the newer album by fans of black
metal?
That's not easy to say. From our point of view it's always good feedback. But people who don't like it, would not contact us. But I don’t think it is important what other people think about our music and what they believe to know about our spirituality.

10.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part off?
All other projects are on hold and at this point Permafrost has major priority.

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We are still on our path to destroy the world and as long as they exist, we will fight against the gods of light and the world of matter. So we will never give up our audio visual war!

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your current music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
We listen to much different music styles. We like different kinds of metal, old Psychedelic/Progressive Rock or Classic stuff like Wagner, Tchaikovsky and Mussorgsky. But most of time I spent with Black Metal! There are a few bands we like but I will only name one of them: Dissection...

Diabolicum/Ia Pazuzu (The Abyss Of Shadows)/Code666/2015 CD Review

  Diabolicum  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  has  been  around since  the  1990's  that  mixes  raw  occult  black  metal  with  industrial  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Ia Pazuzu (The Abyss Of Shadows)"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  Code666.

  Spoken  word  samples  which  also  mix  in  with  the  heavier  parts  at  times  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  black  metal  direction  that  uses  angry  screams  and  brutal  programmed  blast  beats  that  are  heavier  and  faster  than  a  regular  drum  kit  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

Melodic  guitar  leads  are  used  on  a  regular  basis  throughout  the  recording  along  with  the  songs  mixing  in  more  of  a  harsh  and  darker  style  of  industrial  that  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  militant  and  ritualistic  feeling  ans  some  songs  also  bring  in a  small  amount  of  clean  singing  and  the  faster  sections  bring  in  more  of  a  mid  90's  Swedish  black  metal  feeling  and  some  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  elements  of  ambient  noise  and  there  are  also  some  atmospheric  synths  being  mixed  in  with  the  more  industrial  side  of  the  bands  musical  style  and  all of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.. 

  Diabolicum  takes  a  very  fast,  raw  and  brutal  style  of  black  metal  and  mixes  it  in with  ambient,  noise  and  a  great  dose  of  industrial  to  create  a  very  heavy  sounding  recording,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism,  Misanthropy,  Esotericism  and  Death  themes.

  In my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  comeback  album  for  Diabolicum  and  if  you are  a  fan  of  industrial  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Void  Of  Astaroth"  "Salvation Through  Vengeance"  and  "Angelmaker".  8  out  of  10.
