Myrkraverk  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  plays a   Norwegian  style  of  black  metal  with  a  touch  of  folk  music   and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Naer  Doden"  which  will be  released  in  March  by  Blut  &  Eisen  Productions.

  A  sci  fi  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  musical  direction  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  at  times  the  vocals  get  very  melodic  and  clean.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  while  spoken  word  parts  when  they  are  utilized  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling   and  throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  Nordic  second  wave  tradition .

  The  solos  and  leads  bringing  in more  of  a  raw,  melodic  and  old  school  style  and  as  the  album  progresses  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  they  also  bring  in  elements  of  folk  music  while  a  couple  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with a  brief  use  of  clean  viking  chants  and  female  vocals  and  one  song  also  introduces  synths  onto  the  recording. 

  Myrkraverk  plays  a  style  of  Norwegian  black  metal  that  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  while  also  mixing  in  folk  music  elements  as  well  as  taking  the  genre  into  more  of  an  original  direction,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  Occultism,  Darkness  and  Nordic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Myrkraverk  are  a  very  great  sounding  Norwegian  black  metal  band  with  a  touch  of  folk  music  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ritual"  "Blakvit"  "Instinkt"  and  "Nordvegen  II".  8/5  out  of  10.    

  Ov  Shadows  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018 album  "The  Darkness  Between  Stars"  which  will  be  released  on  February  23rd  by  Black  Market  Metal  Label.

  Atmospheric  soundscapes  start  of  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling  along  with t he  vocals  being  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  modern,  melodic  and  atmospheric  fashion  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  as  well  as  some  of  the  tracks  being  long  and  epic  in  length  and  on  the  last  track  clean  playing  is  introduced  onto  the  recording.

  On  this  recording  Ov  Shadows  goes  for  more  of  a  modern  and  atmospheric  style  of  black  metal  while  also  being  very  raw,  aggressive  and  melodic  at  the  same  time,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  nature  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ov  Shadows  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Darkness  Between  Stars"  "The  Ritual  Of  The  Natural  Flame"  and  "A  Sky  in  Vain".  8  out  of  10.

  

  Onirism  are  a  solo  project  from  France  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  ambient  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2018  album  "Falling  Moon"  which  was  released  by  Naturmacht  Productions.

  Keyboards  start  off  the  album  and  also  bringing  in  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys  while  also  mixing  in  ambient  and  atmospheric  elements  while  programmed  beats  are  also  used  at  times  and  they  are  also  mixed  into  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  as well  as  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.

  Most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams,  clean  vocals  can  also  be  heard  at  times  as  well  as  the  faster  sections  of t he  songs  bringing  in a   great  amount  of  blast  beats.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  while  the  tremolo  picking  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling  along  with  some  female  vocals  also  being  used  at  times  as  well  as  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts   and  as  the  album  progresses  a  couple  of  interludes  and  symphonic  elements  can  also  be  heard.

  Onirism  creates  another  recording  that   continues  the  ambient  black  metal  sound  he  introduced  on  the  previous  ep,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  lucid  dreaming  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Onirism  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ambient  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "See  The  End  Of  The  Worlds" "I'm  Dying  Again" "When  Titans  Awake"  and  "The  Celestial Calling".  8/5  out  of  10.

  Rituael  are  a  band  from  Singapore  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of their self  released  2018  ep  "Revelation  6:17".

  A  very  dark  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  thunder  sounds  as  well  as  some  melodic  yet  ritualistic  chanting  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal s creams  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  use  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling  along  with  the  music  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  as  well  as  the  tracks  also bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  they  close  the  ep  with  a  very  dark  and  disturbing  sounding  intro.

  Rituael  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw,  traditional  and  melodic  sounding,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  blasphemous  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Rituael  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  old  school  black  metal b and  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "One  Eye  Dominate"  and  "Revelation  6:17".  8  out  of  10.  

  Aorlhac  are  a  band  from  France  that  plays  a  very  epic,  melodic  and  raw  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "L'espirit  des  vents"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Les  Acteurs  de  I' Ombre  Productions.

Tremolo  picking  riffing  starts  off  the  album  and  also  gives  the  music more  of  a  raw  feeling  before  going  into  a  faster  direction  which  also  introduces  blast  beats  onto  the  recording  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  angry  black  metal  screams  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  A  great  amount  of  melody  can  also  be  heard  in  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also being  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  as  well  as  some  clean  vocals  also  being  used  briefly  ad  most  of  the  tracks are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  on  one  of  the  tracks  a  small  amount  of  folk  instruments  can  also  be  heard  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief use  of  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard,  a  later  song  also  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  death  metal  growls  and  they  close  the  album  with  an  instrumental.

  Aorlhac  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw,  epic  and  melodic  sounding,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  French  and  cover  Medieval  Times  and  Occitan  History  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Aorlhac  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw,  melodic  and  epic  black  metal  band  and  if  you are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genres,  you  should check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Alderica"  "Ode  a  la  croix  clechee"  "la  procession  des  trepasses"  and  "L'ora  es  vunguda".  8  out  of  10.
