Ode Vinter/Mortuus Mereticus/2012 EP Review

mardi 7 janvier 2014 à 04:45

Ode  Vinter  are  a  band  from  Illinois  that  plays  dark  and  grim  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2012  ep  "Mortuus  Mereticus".

The  ep  starts  out  with  some  dark  and  haunting  ambient  sounds  before  adding  in  drums  and  fast,  raw  black  metal  guitar  riffs  which  leads  up  to  grim screams  making  their  presence  known  and  the  band  also  mixes  slow  and  fast  parts  together  and  after  awhile  dark  sounding  guitar  leads  are  added  into  the  music.

When  the  band  goes  into  the  second  song  sounds  of  rain  and  thunder  are  added  into  the  music  before  going  into  a  more  old  school  black  metal  as  well  as  adding  in  death  metal  growls  and  that  influence  is  also  added  into  the  melodic  guitar  riffing  and  the  band  stick  to  a  true  black  metal  direction  and  when  they  add  in  blast  beats the  ep  starts  sounding  a lot  more  powerful.

When  the  band  goes  into  the  fourth  song  acoustic  guitars  are  added  into  the  music  briefly  and  then  the  band  goes  back  into  another  old  school  black  metal  assault  as  well  as  bringing  in  synths  which  also  gives  the  music  a  very  atmospheric  sounding  edge  and  when  the  music  goes  into  the  last  song  they  start  bringing  in  even  more  dark  elements.

On  these  5  songs  that  are  displayed  on  this  demo  you  can  tell  this  band  knows  their  old  school  black  metal  very  well  and  these  are  some  of  the  darkest  black  metal  songs i  have  heard  from  a  United  States  black  metal  band.

Song  lyrics  cover  dark,  blasphemous  and  grim  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  old  school  sound  with  the  bass  guitars  being  mixed  down  low  in  the  mix.

In  my  opinion  Ode  Vinter  are  a  very  great  sounding  dark  and  grim  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Buried  Beneath  A  Grim  Sky"  and  "Funerary  offering".  8/5  out  of  10.

Hermit Hill/Demo One/2013 Review

mardi 7 janvier 2014 à 04:04

Hermit  Hill  are  a  band  from  Illinois  that  plays  black  metal  with  elements  of  folk  and  progressive music  and this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2013  demo.

The  ep  starts  out  with  some  drums  and  melodic  guitar  riffs  and  the  music  goes  into  a  heavier  direction  when  the  grim  screams  start  kicking  in  while  also  keeping  around  the  melodies  and  there  are  also  death  metal  growls  added  to  the  recording.

As  the  demo  moves  on  melodic  vocals  are  added  into  the  music  and  they  bring  a  very  ritualistic  feeling  to  the  recording  as  well  as  the  black  metal  vocals  utilizing  more  depressive  elements  and  you  can  hear  the  folk  and  progressive  influences  in  the  guitar  riffing  and  melodic  vocals  and  you  can  also  hear  some  thrash  influences  being  utilized  on  the  last  song.

On  these  4  songs  that  are  displayed  on  this  ep,  Hermit  Hill  show  a  lot  of  promise  for  being  a  new  band  and  there  slow  and  grim  approach  to  black  metal  has  a  very  old  school  feeling  to  it  and  when  they  mix  in  folk  and  progressive  elements  it  does  not  weaken  their  music  and  I  would  like  to  see  what  direction  this  band  heads  into  on future  releases.

Song  lyrics  cover  dark  and  metaphysical  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark  and  raw  sound  on  the  4  songs  that  are  presented  with  this  demo.

In  my  opinion  Hermit  Hill  are  a  very  great  sounding  black  metal  band  with  elements  of  death  metal,  folk  and  progressive  music  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Executioner  Sleeps  In  The  Evening"  and  "Destined  to  Die".  8  out  of  10.

Burial Hordes/Incendium/Hellthrasher Productions/2014 CD Review

dimanche 5 janvier 2014 à 05:23

Burial  Hordes  are  a  band  from  Greece  that  plays  a  satanic  form  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "Incendium"  which  was  released  by Hellthrasher  Productions.

The  album  starts  out  with  some  heavy  black  metal  guitar  riffs  and  drums  before  going  into  a  faster  direction  as  well  as  mixing  in  blast  beats  and  dark  sounding  melodies  and  then  the  music  starts  adding  in  death  metal  growls  along  with  some  black  metal  screams  which  leads  to  a  slower  direction  and  they  way  they  combine  black  and  death  brings  a  very  brutal  sound  to  the  recording.

As  the  album  continues  the  band  continues  there  brutal  assault  as  well  as  mixing  slow  and  fast  parts  together  with  a  great  amount  of  skill  and  conviction  as  well  as  making  their  melodies  sound  very  evil  and  blasphemous  and  by  the  time  the  album  gets  to  the  fourth  song  they  add  in  a  small  amount  of  ritualistic  sound  effects  as  well  as  adding  in  some  new  elements  to  their  melodic  side,  and  on  the  5th  song  there  is  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  which  also  return  on  other  songs  and  on  the  following  song  they  mix  in  clean  guitars  with  the  heavier  elements  of  the  music  and  the  bass  guitars  also get  more  powerful,  and  the  band  also  brings  in  some  Gregorian  chants  which  also  add  more  darkness  to  the  recording  while  also  remaining  heavy  and  brutal  all  at  the  same  time.

Burial  Hordes  shows  a  lot  of  talent  and  skill  throughout  the  album  with  the  way  they  mix  blasphemous  black  metal  with  death  metal  and  the  band  also  shows  that  it  is  not  afraid  to  experiment  and  this  album  so  far  looks  like  it  will  be  one  of  the  huge  highlights  for  2014.

Song  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Darkness  and  Occultism,  while  the  production  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  dark  sound  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording.

In  my  opinion  Burial  Hordes  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  satanic  black  metal  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band  and  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Unleash  Havoc"  "Path  Of  bloodshed"  and  "Incendium".  8/5  out  of  10.

Kult Of Taurus 2014 Interview

dimanche 5 janvier 2014 à 03:40
1. Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the last time we talked?
1.Well,many things that were important for the band to be "shaped" and to serve it's purpose as it should. In 2011 our former drummer C.T. who contributed in our demo and the split release left the band which was a "step-back" for us since we had already began working with him for this album. We went through the usual searching process and finally nodens(Prometheus,Lord Impaler,North gate) took the challenge to record the drums and you can hear the result in this album. We are more than satisfied for his contribution,he did an amazing job as any serious musician should!Still,he could not continue as a full-member within the band for his personal reasons and now Hellscum is on drumming duties. In addition Bile joined as a second guitarist
so at least for now the line-up is stable and the new members contribute their fullest.

2.You recently put out a new album which sounds a lot more different than the last one I have reviewed, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical sound of the new album and the progression you have made during the last 5 years?
2.Divination Labyrinths is no ordinary album. We understood that when the first songs started to appear in 2010. We knew we had some powerful material and thus we knew that nothing should be left in chance. We recorded many times and all got thrown away until it could satisfy us.The same process went also for the album cover which was very important for us to carry the feeling of the album and represent it 100%.Later I decided to send an email to Vicotnik and see if he would like to produce our album(again,no ordinary choice) and he accepted.
We spend a lot of nights talking through emails about how the album should sound, and what we want to achieve. He is one of the most passionate and dedicated musicians I've ever had the chance to meet.In everything he does he offers his 120%.One can hear his presence in this album.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you have explored with your newer release and what are some of the changes you have made as a songwriter?
3.I think my nature was always a more spiritual and philosophical one. Doubts about life and existence were always high since my early age. So,constant reading,thinking/questioning(this word sounds alien in this age I know) and searching/examine could do nothing less than awake my promethean black flame and change the course of my existence. So at the point
I was writing the lyrics for Divination Labyrinths,I had already gained my first experiences from the books I was into at that time."Where No Moon Rises" for example is a very important song for those who understand in many ways.I turned my back to the illusional reality(The light that divides the earth,ÐÔÙÓÇ) and descented inwards to ascend upwards!A very special
album indeed!A symbol of change! For to live is to change! Hail Lucifer! Hail his essence!

4.In the email you sent me, you said something a bout a spiritual growth since the last album can you tell us a little bit more about yet?

4.The above answer covers this as well.No need to say more.

5.I remembered the last time we talked you said you had only done one show back then, have you had the chance to do any live shows since then and improve your stage performance?
5.A live show is something very serious at least for us.In my opinion you can not treat such an important matter like "fun" and insert limiting behaviours for beer-drinkers/non-thinkers.You need to present your work to the fullest and you can only do that when you feel like you can which is NOT all the time. With this being said we have only done 2 shows(since 2009),one supporting Rotting Christ in 2011 and another in 2013 as headliners.Experience earned in both cases, negative and positive!

6.The new album came out on Forever Plagued Records, how did you get in contact with this label and how would you describe the support they have given you so far?
.Nothing unusual,I just send promos to labels I thought we would fit best and we came to an agreement with FPR. A very respected label in underground circles and a serious one. They respect us and treat our material with care!

7.A few years back you did a split album with Stenhos, what are your thoughts on the other band that had participated on that album?
7.Well Sthenos was an one-man band with whom we shared some similar experiences and decided to make a split release. He produced the split and we still like the atmosphere that it did create in both bands. It was released in a limited number of tapes by wulfrune worxxx.I am not aware of how it was perceived by listeners though.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to the progression of your new album by fans of black metal?

8.It is still very early to say.It is not our highest concern.

9.What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
9.The honest direction.Kult Of Taurus has never stopped creating, rehearsing and evolving. We are dedicated to our cause. Free from limitations.Towards chaos! Hail sophia! Hail Tehom!

10.Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

10.Thank you for your interest in our music and for spreading our word again! Ave victoria!

Aypheros Interview

dimanche 5 janvier 2014 à 03:25
1 - For those who have never heard you before can you tell us a little about you?

Aypheros  is a band with no limitations, the topic contents  in general has a very wide field that can only be appreciated by listening and reading the lyrics and draw their own conclusions, each member is a star …free to do and undo, so we are willing  to address all kinds of themes without limiting our minds ... we realize that our  ASCENDET NOVISSIMA TUA record  has had good response from the people listening or not black metal .and  is open to all nearby metal musical taste, but knowledge is only for anyone who wants to listen and truly understand.

2 - How can you describe the musical sound of the album?

We believe that the sound is expanded without a rating. It's up to the discretion of the listener ... is preferable to listen and form a judgment, but our base is black metal.

3 - The musical lyrics and cover have so much occultism topics and  Thelemites, could you tell us your  point of view on these subjects?

Actually I prefer to define it as occultism itself ... not even derive  a branch of it, even though always tends to lean on something, but every member has its own defined way, the lyrics can speak of thelema but not in a specific way, but a takeover of everything related to occultism, everything is compressed and then we scream in ecstasy of music, but notice that this is a complement of energy where we create the stream and channel it, I don´t think it's right to classify ..I would only say it is occultism..

4 - What is the meaning and the inspiration for the name Aypheros?

Aypheros was created based on a demonic energy, as our inspiration from the beginning was linked to ceremonial magic, goetia, etc.... In time everything has been transformed into ascent to the great work.

5.-  What were the most important concerts that Aypheros has performed on these years of experience and could you describe your performance on stage?

We have played on several important points of our city and out . All our shows are important, I would not like to say which one is better than another, I prefer to leave that to us and just acknowledge and thank the invitation.
As the performance is very minimalist, with the essence of old school black metal ... always giving a mystical touch to turn everything into an atmosphere of emotions ... that show what's in our music

6.- Do you have some kind of show scheduled?

Not at the moment, but we intend to launch our album with some invited Chilean bands..

7.-  In relation with the rest of the world how has been the reception of your work in the fan world of death and black metal music?
It's amazing how people appreciate our work, I have seen and heard people who are not  metal supporters  and they have been to his liking ... for us is rewarding and gives us energy to continue on the path of our own nature.

8 - Is there any other projects besides this band or is this full time?

As musicians we have future projects but currently, tormento (janno) has its hunhallowed active band with an early release of the album. We wish our comrade that the dark gods be with him

9 - What direction do you think your music will take as you go along?

As a band we awake many perceptions of life which  did not define to us what is coming, but what is clear is that we will give our best on behalf of Aypheros and trails will be many but the road is one.

10.- What bands or music styles are influencing you and what are you listening to lately?
Each member has its open mind to what the universe offers, we are fans of old bands like Mercyful Fate, Bathory, Venom, Certic frost as classics Gorgorth, tjuder Satyricon, Immortal Morbid Angel, Black witchery, Disecction, Ensalaved etc. But it is clear that black metal is unique and has the ability to contemplate understanding.

11.-  Outside of the band or music what are your interests?
Unfortunately we don´t live from music each one of us  holds different professions and we internalize intellectually and practically in the occult subject and just as you can see ...

12 - Any words or thoughts you would like to share before finishing the interview?
It is very important to hear from people and see what are we facing to, we shall  never hide before any favorable or unfavorable position. Human being is free and we will always point this, in the presence of any opinion.
Lucifer enlighten your hands and magnify your heart, man has the right to do what he pleases but always aware of the universe and the same man of his own essence. Do not miss the steps and do not deviate from his great  work., Because one is god ..
