Drought  are  an  international  band  that  plays  a   modern  form  of  black  metal  and this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  ep  "Rudra  Bhatki"  which  will  be  released  by  Avantgarde  Music  on  April 15th  in  digital  format  and  May  5th  in digipack  format.

  Ambient  style  sounds  start  off  the  ep  giving the  recording  an  atmospheric  feeling  along  with  some  avant  garde  elements  along  with  a  touch  of  experimental  and  noise  and  on  the  second  track the  music  starts  to  speed  up  and  go  into  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  direction  along with  some  tremolo  picking,  blast  beats  and  grim  yet  high  pitched  screams. 

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  also  using  melodies  at  times  and  the music  is  evenly  balanced  between  both  old  school  and  modern  influences  along  with  the  slower  riffs  adding  in  elements  of  sludge  and  the  guitar  leads  add  more  of  a  melodic  style  to  the  recording  and  clean  singing  is  also  added  on  the  3rd  song  while  the  last  track  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  also  introduces  clean  playing  along  with  acoustic  guitars  into  the  music  as  well  as  bringing  back  the  avant  garde  elements  of  the  intro.

  Drought  plays  a  style  of  black  metal t hat  has  the  rawness  of  the  second  wave  while  also  mixing  in  more  modern  elements  and  also  experimenting  on  a  couple  of  tracks  to  create  something  very  original,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  philosophy  of  Nietzsche  and  Eastern  Mysticism.

  In  my  opinion  Drought  are  a  very  great  sounding  modern  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Fire  Breating (Urdva  Kundali Arise)"  and  "Collapse  Of  Maya  (Transfiguration  of  the  Warrior)".  8  out  of  10.

     

  Goatslave  are  a  band  from  France  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Procession  Of  Doom"  which  was  released  by  Atavism  Records.

  A  very  dark  and  evil  horror  movie  soundtrack  style  intro  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  musical  direction that  also  brings  in  dark  sounding  melodies  at  times  and  after  a  few  seconds  bestial  growls  make  their  presence  known  on  the  recording  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  it  brings  in  more  of  a  raw  style  of  black  metal.

  Blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  during  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  which  also  bring  in  high  pitched  screams  at  times  and  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  second  wave  style  while  still  having  more  of  a  modern  take  on the  genre  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast parts  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  and  melodic  musical  direction  when  they  are  utilized  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  one  track  also  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  samples  and  the  last  track  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  also  closes  with  Gregorian  chants.

  Goatslave  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  rooted  in  the  90's  second  wave  style  while  also  having  more  of  an  updated  take  on  the  genre  and  also  mixes  in  bestial  growls  which  also  makes  the  music  stand  out  a  bit  more,   the  production  sounds  very  raw  yet  powerful  at  the  same  time  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  hateful  and  satanic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Goatslave  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  traditional  bestial  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Throne  Of  hate"  "Six  Sex  Satan"  and  "Kingdom  of  Rats".  8  out  of  10.       

  Pergale  are  a band  from  Lithuania  that  plays  a  very  psycho  and  depressive  form  of  black'n'roll  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Antropologija"  which  was  released  by  Inferna  Profundis  Records.

  A  powerful  sounding  bass  guitar and  melodic  solos  start  off  the  album  before  adding  in  more  of  an  old  school/punk  metal  sound  that  also  brings  in  rough  yet  melodic  vocals  and  the  music  bring s in  a  mid  70's  to  early  80's  vibe  while  the  production  gives  the  music  more  of  a  modern  day  feeling  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts.

  Psychedelic  sounds  can  be  heard  briefly  while  clean  playing  is  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  after  awhile  the  vocals  start  adding  in  growling  vocals  and  all  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  as  the  album  progresses  the  vocals  start  adding  in  more  black  metal  screams  while  the  riffing  starts  adding  more  of  a  black'n'roll  vibe.

  Female  vocals  are  also  utilized  at  times  and  pianos  along  with  goth  style  male  vocals  are  also  added  in  the  music  briefly and  when the  music  speeds  up  it  brings  in  more  of  a  raw  style  of  black  metal  that  also  introduces  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  onto  the  recording  and  clean  guitars  are  also  used  at  times  and  a  later  track  also  introduces  traces  of  electronic  music  onto  the  recording  and  a  later  song  also  introduces  acoustic  guitars  onto  the  recording  and  every  song  has  a  different  sound  to  them and  towards  the  end  elements  of  folk  music  can  be  heard.

  Pergale  plays  a  musical  style  that  has  its  roots  in  depressive  black  metal  and  they change  things  around  by  mixing  in  elements  of  rock,  punk,  goth,  alternative  and  jazz  to  create  a  musical  style  of their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  love,  alcohol,  sex  and  drugs  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Pergale  are  a  very  great  sounding  victorious  psycho  black   rock  band  and  if  you  are  looking  for  something  very  original,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Durnius"  and  "Gabriel  The  Norwegian". 8/2  out  of  10.  
       

 Idolatry  are  a  band  from  Alberta,  Canada  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  and  satanic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Visions  From  the  Throne  Of  Eyes"  which  was  released  by  Humanity's  Plague  Productions.

  Acoustic  guitar  playing  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  ritualistic  whispers  and  spoken  word  parts  a  few  seconds  later  and  after  the  into the  music  goes  into  a  very  heavy  and  raw  old  school  black  metal  direction  along  with  some  high  pitched  screams  and  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  second  wave  style.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking can  be  heard  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  some  of  the  riffs  also  use  a  small  amount  of  melody  and  spoken  words  also  mix  in  with  the  heavier  parts  at  times  and  the  screams  also  mix  in  some  depressive  elements  while  also  getting  very  deep  on  some  later  tracks  and  when  guitar  solos  and leads  are  brought  into  the  music  they  stick  mostly  to  very  melodic yet raw  musical  direction  and  towards  the  end  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  and  melodic  singing  can  be  heard  and  the  last  track  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Idolatry  creates  another  black  metal  recording  that  is  very  raw  and  old  school  in  the  second  wave  tradition  of  the  genre,  the  production  sounds  very  heavy  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Darkness,  Insanity  and  Depression  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Idolatry  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  satanic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Satanas  Haxan"  "Tiamatic  Winds"  and  "Imperator  Nero  Murmurationis  Hotum".  8  out  of  10.    

   

  Zeit  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  depressive  black  metal  and  sludge  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2016  ep  "Gram".

  Drum  beats  and  a  heavy  yet  melodic  guitar  sound  starts  off  the  ep  and  a  few  seconds  later  grim  black  metal s creams  make  their presence  known  on  the  recording  while  the  slow  riffing  mixes  in  a  lot  of  elements  of  sludge  and  doom  metal  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  it  brings  in  more  of  a  raw  style  of  black  metal.

  Tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  during  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  all  of t he  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  while  the  music  does sound  very  modern  you  can  still  hear  a  lot  of 90's  second  wave  influences  being  mixed  in  throughout  the  recording  and  solos  and  leads  are  only  used  briefly  while  the  whole  ep  also  sticks  to  a  heavy  musical  direction  from  beginning  to  ending  of  the  recording.

  On  this  recording  Zeit  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  the  depressive,  raw  and  old  school  styles  of  black  metal  and  mixes  them  together  with  a  touch  of  sludge  to  create  a  very  dark  yet  heavy  recording,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  urban  solitude  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording from  Zeit  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw,  depressive  black  metal  and  sludge,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Verloren"  and  "Dort".  8  out  of  10.
