Vathos Interview

jeudi 12 mars 2020 à 07:05
1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?

1. Our main preoccupation right now is the release of our new album Underwater. We want to give our fans on the 11th of April the best night, the perfect night.

2.You have your first full length coming out in April, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style you went for on the recording?

2. The evolution period of our style with elements from atmospheric post black, melodic death metal with a diverse influence of sub-genres from the extreme side of music resulting in a mixture of melody and aggression as we start to define our own sound in a such a short time span. Music which catches the listeners’ attention and underground scene following by 2 years of concerts.

3.Your music is mostly rooted in post black metal, what separates you from other bands that are put into this category?
3. Vathos is different in sound, structure and melody inspired in different genres of extreme metal.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?
4. The lyrical theme reflects struggles, beliefs, depression, love and corruption all wrapped-up in a circle called life.

5.Your name means 'depth' in Greek, how does this name fit in with the musical style that you play?
5. Vathos takes a big dive into the human psychology. Adding music or better say taking human problems to a musical dimension, means depth for us.

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?
6. The idea behind the artwork is a post apocalyptic scenery in which the ruins of a striving civilization stand as proof of a greatness the may never be reinstalled.

7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
7. The band shared the stage alongside national bands such as, Mercy's Dirge, Machiavellian God, Syn Ze Sase Tri, Psychogod, Sincarnate, Dinumbra, Akral Necrosis, An theos, Ordinul Negru, Rancorum, Bucium, As I fall, Between Colors, Linear disorder, Deathrattle, Feral jack, MBP, Downfall, Nocturn, Era Divina and also international acts like, Batushka, Web, Martyrium, Sudden Death, Sanctorium, April Weeps, Kolac, participating in well known international festivals, Rockstadt Extreme Fest 2018, sharing the main stage with, Amorphis, Belphegor, Brujeria, W.A.S.P, Goathwhore, The Fallen Prophets, following up with Rockstadt Underground in 2019 and Encore Metal Festival 2019 alongside bands like, Theatre des Vampires , Fallcie si Harakiri for the Sky.

8.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released?
8. For now the main show is on April 11th for further concerts and plans we will keep you noticed.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?
9. We are pleased to see that fans across the world are giving us positive reviews.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
10. Our music is inspired from different styles and aspects of life. We go with the flow. The kind of flow which stays in the extreme metal zone.

White Nights/Into The Lap Of The Ancient Mother/Iron Bonehead Productions/2020 EP Review

mercredi 11 mars 2020 à 07:57

White  Nights  are  a  band  from  the  United  States  that  plays  an  abstract  form  of  black  metal  with  some  elements  of  death  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  ep  "Into  The  Lap  Of  The  Ancient  Mother"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by   Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

Spoken  word  parts  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  psychedelic  sounding  organs  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  at  times.  Most of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  the  vocals  also  bringing  in  an  aggressive  spoken  style.

All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  music  also  mixes  in  a  great  amount  of  death  rock  elements.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  avant  garde  and  experimental  sounding  along  with  one  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  all  of  the  songs  sound  different  from  each  other  as  well  as  all  of  the  tracks  sticking  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  style.

White  Nights  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  abstract  sounding  as  well  as  mixing  in  some  psychedelic,  experimental  and  death  rock  elements  to  create  something  very  original. The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover hallucinating  themes.

In  my  opinion  White  Nights  are  a  very  great  sounding  abstract  black  metal  band  with  some  death  rock  elements  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Litha"  and  "Bolthorn".  8  out  of  10.

Ande/Vossenkuil/2020 CD Review

mardi 10 mars 2020 à 20:24

Ande  is  a  solo  project  from  Belgium  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  very  raw  and  atmospheric  form  of  post  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self released  2020  album  "Vossenkuil"  which  will  be  released  in  April.

A  synth  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  music  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.

Some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Atmospheric  elements  are  also  mixed  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  at  times  along  with  the  synths  also  making  a  return  on  some  of  the  later  tracks.

When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  one  track  also  introducing  spoken  word  parts  onto  the  recording.  The  riffs  also  bring  in  a  good  amount  of  melody  as  well  as  one  track  also  introducing  clean  playing  and  clear  singing  onto  the  recording.

You  can  also  hear  some  influences  of  folk  and  post  black  metal  as  the  album  progresses  as  well  as  a  later  song  being  a  cover  of  Lugrubrum's  "Mjin  Koninkrijk  Van  Groen"  and  the  recording  also  closes  with  an  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  the  songwriters  native  tongue  and  covers  nature  and  misanthropy  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ande  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  atmospheric  post  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Nachtwandeling"  "De  Hutten"  and  "Sneeuw  Op  Het  Meer".  8  out  of  10.
