1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
The band has been around since 2007. We have played two full shows and collaborated a special show with Suamanucaedere.
2.You have your first full length coming out in November, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style you went for on the recording?
We went for an experimental, psychedelic and more technical style of black metal. I also wanted to be able to sing songs in different voices,
some with growls others with shrieks and whatever I just felt like at the time. Our music is joyful but it's not meant to be interpreted als funny music or unserious.
Our motivations are afterall pretty disturbing to most people. Our music clearly has a lot of death worship and tells tales of hate and destruction.
3.The band has been around since 2007 and so far has only released one single and a full length, can you tell us a little bit more about the gaps in between releases?
At first we struggled with recording the album the way we wanted. We are both in other projects and also have day jobs. We focus more on making a great piece of art instead of being commercially successful.
4.A lot of your lyrics cover Occultism and Left hand Path themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the dark arts?
Wouldn't be very occult if we'd talk about that openly. What I can say is that we practice rituals of several cultures and
currents and that we experiment with little or no regards for safety. We mainly want knowledge and to bring harm on those we despise.
5.What are some of the other lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?
Drug abuse, Mental illness, Philosophy, Murder, Anti Cosmic themes.
Our first song was about Cthulhu but that was more as a homage than as a serious statement.
6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Guignol Noir'?
When we first met we had the idea of making Guignol Noir an audio-visual project. We still plan to do that at some point if possible, but this would take a long time preparing.
The main idea used to be a stop-motion clip about the decay of sun and moon after the black puppet rises. This was mainly inspired by Leehardcastle and other similar stop motion / claymation artists.
Guignol noir is the abyssal puppet, a personification of a force able to swallow even the greatest of stellar bodies.
7.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the album cover?
We wanted perverse versions of medieval woodcuts. Something familiar but forein at once.
Something that most have seen and know but also something new and fresh.
8.In the studio the band works as a duo, are you open to working with other musicians in the studio or expanding the line up?
Yes we are open for collaborations with bands that we hold in high regard or personal friends of ours.
We don't even care if the other bands play other genres the only thing that matters is that we like the music and the people we work with.
9.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
Every show we did was special in some way. The last one was a few months back in the alps of Fribourg. There are a few pictures on our instagram
but they only give a small glance at the majestic mountain backdrop we had there. If i'd had to describe the performance i'd say it's pretty straightforward.
10.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that the band members are a part of?
- Taifl is on hold because of the pandemic. But we still are working on an EP.
- Cheib is playing Bass with Hån and they are very active and have a new album coming soon. Furthermore he has his personal projects and Suamanucaedere also is still active.
11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We are already working on our next release. Musically Guignol Noir is always a wild card, but we don't plan on playing anything softer or less technical. Our music is always meant to be dirty evil stuff.
12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to listening to nowadays?
Hell Militia, Darvulia, C.Y.T., Watain, Ofermod, Dissection and the song Bacterium Dei from Wolok have had a direct influence on Guignol Noir.
Bands we like: Watain, Armagedda, Arckanum, Cobalt, Winterblut, Lugubrum, Silencer, Oranssi Pazuzu,
