Tempers Creature/Erdenthraene/Ex Abyssi Te Vocavi, Dei!/Winterwolf Records/2016 Split CD Review

jeudi 3 novembre 2016 à 02:32

This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Germany's  Temper  Creature  and  Erdenthraene  called  "Ex  Abyssi  Te  Vocavi,  Dei!"  which  was  released  by  Winterwolf  Records  and  we  will start  off  the  review  with  Tempers  Creature  a  duo  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  depressive  form  of  pagan/black  metal.

Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  nature  sounds  and  acoustic  guitars  along  with  some  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  making  their  presence  known  a  few  seconds  later  and  after  awhile  the  music  gets  heavier  while  also  mixing  in  the  acoustic  parts  which  also  gives  the music  more  of  a  pagan  metal.

When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  feeling  and  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  guitar  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  at  times.

Throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  pagan  vocals  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  they  also  bring  in  a  cover  of  Klage  der  Nacht's  "Spuren  im  Schnee"  and  a  couple  of  the  songs  also  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  violins  and  folk  instruments.

Tempers  Creature  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  depressive  and  pagan/black  metal  mixtures  of  previous  recordings  while  making  this  half  depressive  and  the  other  side  more  folk  orientated,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  Paganism, Depression,  Social  issues  and  Nature  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Tempers  Creature  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  depressive  and  pagan/black  metal  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Leiden  enes  Freien"  "Ein  lebend  geist"  and  "Der  Wind  TragtIhn  Hinfort".

Next  up  is  Erdenthraene  a  solo project  that  plays  a  mixture  of  melodic  death,  folk  and  black  metal.

His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  nature  sounds  and  spoken  word  parts  as  well  as  some  epic  and  ambient  style  keyboards  and  after  awhile  folk  instruments  are  added  onto  his  side  of  the  split  and  they  also  mix  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

Vocals  are  mostly  deep  yet  grim  black  metal  screams  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  tremolo  picking  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  songs  and  as  their  side  of  the  split  progresses  clean  singing  pagan  vocals  along  with  some  whispers  are  added  onto  the  recording.

Erdenthraene  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black,  pagan,  melodic  death  metal  and  mixes  it  with  folk  music  to  create  a  sound  of  his  own,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  yet  heavy  at  time  whle  the  lyrics  cover  Paganism,  Fantasy  and  Nature  themes.

In  my  opinion  Erdenthraene  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  pagan,  melodic  death  and  folk  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Winds  Shall  Not  Sing..."  and  "Earthen  Flesh,  Starclad  Mind,".

In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  black  and  pagan  metal.  8/5  out  of  10.

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Insonus - The project started in the early days of 2016,born from an old idea of R.
Our music is a tribute to nihilism and hate.

2.Recently you have released an ep, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?

Insonus - We like to think to our musical representation as the perfect union of melancholy, nihilism and total detachment from the human kind.
Through this release we touched every form of our interpersonal feelings.
Even from the title "Nemo Optavit Vivere" you can understand of our philosophy.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

Insonus - "Surely one of the common point that we have is the Anti humanism. You'll never read or listen something positive in one of our release.
Insonus born as a manifesto of the worst human feelings"

4.I know that the bands name means 'absence of sound', how does this name fit in with the musical style you play?

Insonus - We feel the silence as a form of life absence. That is why it fits well with the musical style, especially with lyrics, that represents a kind of an inner reflection.

5.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you planning on expanding the line up in the future or do you chose to remain a duo?

Insonus - We'll stay as we are,but we don't exclude the participation of some guests in the upcoming release.

6.Are there any plans for any live shows in the future?

Insonus - Not at the moment,we prefer to focus on our studio work.

Only the time we'll give us the right answers of what this project will be.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Neravendetta/Magnum Chaos/2016 Full Length Review

samedi 29 octobre 2016 à 02:49

Nerevendetta  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  plays  black/viking  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2016  album  "Magnum  Chaos".

Melodic  guitar  leads  start  off  the  album  and  they  are  a  very  huge  part  of t he  recording  and  once  the  keyboards  and  heavy  guitars  kick  in  the  music  starts  bringing  in  more  of  a  viking  metal style  along  with  some  grim  yet  high  pitched  screams  and  the  riffs  also  use  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  album  and  folk  instruments  can  also  be  heard  in  the  music  briefly  and  when  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  feeling  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  long  and  epic  in  length.

Neravendetta  plays  a  style  of  black/viking  metal  that  is  very  epic,  melodic  and  atmospheric sounding,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  nature,  science  and  Sardinian  history.

In  my  opinion  Neravendetta  are  a  very  great  sounding  black/viking  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "A  Cosmic  Journey"  "Sirius"  and  "Sailing  To  Chaos".  8  out  of  10.

Gaerea Interview

vendredi 28 octobre 2016 à 13:58
1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

GAEREA is as unexpected as needed to solve our vision for this sick and mental urban space we are inserted in. We're caged on the same jail as other people, like you and doesn't matter how hard you pray to your idol or fight against the system, you'll never win. We are the half faced human demon that grows inside this oppressed animals we are.

2.You have an ep coming out in November, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?

We wanted to create a wall of sound. A wall that could hit the audience in the most strong way we could imagine. Thats how GAEREA sounds.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

Narcisism, Self Destruction, Misanthropy, Mental Numbness

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Gaerea'?

We wanted to create and raise a name that could represent what we do. A name that could only mean us, and that's what we did. We created GAEREA.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

The band never played live, yet.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

We have many things to announce when  releasing the EP, including some special live appearances.

7.The ep is coming out on 'Everlasting Spew Records', are you happy with the support that they have given you so far?

We couldn't be more proud of the fantastic team they are. Mixing that with  the approach and experience of our manager Tito Vespasiani, you get total security and the job is done properly and creatively. Everlasting Spew Records was the best option on the table after some months getting interested labels on the mail and we took it without thinking twice.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?

So far, not bad. Beyond our expectations, some people really seem to like it and that surprises us in an interesting way. We are not a trendy group or a celebrity act that people love these days just because the next dude followed the taste of the other. If the audience really likes us, we'll make sure they know what they really like on us. It's not about music anymore. It's a lot more than that.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Too soon to think about the further step. Though, we know what we want to achieve with this first chapter that will be only concluded with the next release. For now, we'll seed this creation and spread the word about the beast that will born from it.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

We are a lot more influenced by visual art rather than music itself. Even the big city and the machine that makes everything work is something that influenced us and will continue to develop in further creations. We create music that would be the perfect soundtrack for the visuals we first imagined for this first step. Only after the sketching of what we want to see and feel about the art, music comes and plays its part on our message.

11.How would you describe your views on Occultism?

We couldn't care less about it.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

We are GAEREA. Expect us.

Impure Ziggurat/Serenades Of Astral Malevolance/Magister Dixit/2016 7 Inch Review

vendredi 28 octobre 2016 à 03:39

Impure  Ziggurat  are  a  band  from  France  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  and  occult  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  ep  "Serenades  Of  Astral  Malevolance"  which  was  released  by  Magister  Dixit.

Melodic  ritualistic  chants  and  keyboards  start  off  the  ep  and  after  the  intro the  music  starts  going  into  a  heavier  direction  as  well  as  speeding  up  and  adding  in  blast  beats  and  bestial  growls  while  the  tremolo  picking  gives  the  music  a  very  raw  feeling  and  the  music  also  incorpotaes  a  great  amount  of  death  metal  influences.

Elements  of  war  metal  can  be  heard  in  the  bands  musical  style  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  yet  chaotic  fashion  and  all  of  the  musical  sticks  to  a  heavy  musical  direction  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  and  their  is  also  a  small  amount  of  grim  black  metal  vocals.

Impure  Ziggurat  creates  another  recording  that  remains true  to  the  black  and  death  metal  mixture  of  their  previous  release,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Lost  Civilizations  and  Occult  Astrosophy.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Impure  Ziggutat  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Summoning  Oorts  Semen".  8  out  of  10.
