Inconcessus Lux Lucis/Disintregration: Psalms Of Veneration For The Nefarious Elite/Nomos Dei Productions 2014 CD Review

vendredi 16 mai 2014 à 01:17

Inconcessus  Lux  Lucis  are  a  band  from  the  united  kingdom  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  that  plays  an  occult  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of t heir  2014  album   "Disintregration: Psalms Of Veneration For The Nefarious Elite"  which  was  released  by  Nomes  Dei  Productions.

Dark  wind  sounds  start  off  the  album  before  the  music  goes  into  a  slow  melodic  black  metal  direction  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sounding  very  powerful  which  leads  to  the  music  getting  more  raw  and  fast  along  with  some  grim  vocals  and  blast  beats  as  well  as  mixing  the  slow  melodic  parts  in  with  the  more  fast  elements.

There  is  a  great  amount  of  talent  and  skill  in  the  musical  instruments  and  there  are  also  small  amount s of  synths  being  added  into  the  music  at  times  which  evokes  a  more  atmospheric  sound  into  their  music  and  when  spoken  words  are  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  they  enhance  the  ritualistic  qualities  of  the  recording  and  the  music  also has  a  more  avant  garde  feeling  to  it  at  times  along  with  a  few  long  and  epic  in  length  tracks.

The  guitar  solos  and  leads  when  they  are  utilized  are  very  melodic  sounding  and  there  are  also  small  elements  of  psychedelia  and  thrash  being  mixed  in  with  the  band's  melodic  occult  black  metal  sound  at  times  and  the  songs  on  this  album   are  the  most  diverse  stuff  the  band  has  released  so  far  as  well  as  having  more  catchy  structures  this  time  around  as  well  as  addign  in  elements  of  traditional  metal  in c ertain s ections  of  the  recording.

Inconcessus Lux Lucis  show  a  lot  of  maturity  and  growth  with  this  album  creating a  very  diverse  and  original  sounding  melodic  occult  black  metal  album  that  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  dark atmospheres  and  talented  music  instrument  pieces,  the  production  is  very  professional  and  powerful  sounding  and  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism,  Death  Worship  and  the  Qabalah's  darker  side.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Inconcessus Lux Lucis  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  melodic  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Into  the  Pit  Of  Purging"  "In  her  Most  baneful  Shadow"  "Witch  of  the  Forge"  and  "Severed  from  Sephiroth".  8/9  out  of  10.

Scourge Interview

vendredi 16 mai 2014 à 00:03
1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?

Well, after the recording we started focusing on rehearsals and promotions for our album. As soon as Cogumelo released our album here in Brazil, invitations for gigs started to appear and we played in many cities. Our focus now is to play as much as possible and show our work, propagating hatred throughout Brazil.

2.You have a new album coming out at the end of May, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical direction of the new recording and also how does it differ from the album you had released in 2011?

HATE METAL is more in-your-face than the first album. It is more brutal and old-school. We took the essence of the Metal from the state of Minas Gerais and put it in the songs of the new CD without losing the rawness of the first album.

3.When i listened to the album I could hear a lot of the old 80's underground Brazilian metal sound in your music but done in a more brutal manner, do you feel your home country has a great history when it comes to underground metal?

Without any doubt, Brazil made and still makes history in worldwide Metal. Brazil is not only the country of soccer but it is also the country of Heavy Metal. Bands like Sarcofago, Vulcano, and Chakal are great and make their music with guts and perseverance. Brazil has influenced the world making a no-frills Metal born from the pit of the stomach.

4.On a one of the tracks you had Wagner Antichrist of Sarcofago doing some vocals, where you honored to have this metal legend participate on the new album?

Wagner is a great friend. I’ve known him since we were kids. He is an icon of worldwide Metal. One day he came to our rehearsal and I asked him if he’d be into participating in our CD. He accepted and we super stoked. On top of that, he helped a lot, giving advice in the album’s production. We had other guests such as M. Joker (Ex-Sarcofago/Uganga), Fernando Lima (Drowned), and Rodrigo de Carya (Lustful). All of them helped our work become better!

5.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the new release?

Our lyrics cover themes like hatred and lust, war, false freeloading people, but most of all the problems with the fads that exist in Metal. We want to pass the message that Metal is not a fad, it’s a way of life, where only the strong survive. Scourge lives and breathes Metal 24 hours a day.

6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Scourge'/

Scourge means to flog. We took the name from the song The Laws of Scourge by Sarcófago. We wanted a name that would draw parallels with the bands agenda. In other words, we want to flog all falseness that exists in the underground. We want to flog all those bastard falses who think Metal is fashion.

7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

When we play live, we play with blood in our eyes. We want to scream from our lungs what we feel. We have played many great shows. All of them have been perfect with insane crowds headbanging non-stop. That fuels us to continue disseminating hatred throughout Brazil and the world.

8.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released?

We expect to play throughout Brazil to divulge our album to the max. We’re looking at shows outside our country as well. We want to show the world the Hate Metal from Brazil.

9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death and black metal?

We’re very happy with the feedback on our new album. A lot of people from all over the world has been talking about our music, praising our album!

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Our future depends entirely o working hard; playing in many places and writing new songs. In other words, we have to show our face to the world. We’re already writing new songs which are much more brutal than the ones we have now. We make the music we like and feel good playing. Everything comes from the pit of the stomach. This is the Metal from the state of Minas Gerais.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

We listen to everything, from traditional Heavy Metal all the way to old-school Black Metal! We dig bands such as Bathory, Venom, Hellhammer, Sarcofago, Death, AC/DC, Black Sabbath (Masters). We like the old shit since few bands from the new generation show originality. Most bands just copy each other.

12.Does Satanism or Occultism play any role in your music?

Well, I don’t believe in god, therefore I can’t really believe in Satanás. I respect other people’s beliefs. Satanism, Occultism, all that stuff is already a fad. People don’t really have the knowledge to talk about this stuff and write about things they don’t understand. To me, Satanism is nothing more than little comic book horror stories. Few bands really study the subject and write about it correctly. I could care less about religious people or Satanists, for that matter.

13.What are some of your non musical interests?

Outside of music I like to fish, camp and cook. I love my family. I like simple things from everyday life.

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Scourge says thank you for the opportunity to show a bit o four work. Metal is union and that makes a difference. Thanks to all headbangers worldwide. Metal will never die. Winner never quit and quitters never win.

Morbid Slaughter Interview

mercredi 14 mai 2014 à 22:14

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new ep?

Hello, Here Envenom. Well, after the recording of “WICCA” we were practicing for our show with Mortuary Drape. It was something special for us, after one year and half we return to the stage, was our 3rd show. Now we are waiting for the release day.

2.You have a new ep coming out at the end of May, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical sound of the new recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

Yes, of course.  In fact, Wicca is a song from 2011. I composed this song with other four. I mean, many songs of the band are composed; I have a Full length completely written. Changes, I think that we will change more with time, you know,  MORBID SLAUGHTER starts when I was a boy recently out of the high school. Time passes, and in those year things happen. Wicca is not about criminals, murder or things like that. It's spiritual, you know, the lyrics changed a lot. That not means I will not play the old songs again. I mean, the songs for the Full length are older than Wicca. I need to show those old songs, is part of MORBID SLAUGHTER, from the years of wrath to the beginning of the transcendence of the soul. The other song is "Nightly Breath of God", this one is more of this times, of my spiritual art, is a trance facing the unknown.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?

When I start MORBID SLAUGHTER, I was 16. I start writing Black Rock Punk songs (these were recorded for our second demo). I was in the horror movies and my teenage vehemence. I start alone without support of no one. I write about death, murders, horror. I always searched to know about trances and the spiritual transcendence, the unknown was always there. The first demo tape was a completely a nightly dream. You know, for that I have a special affection to it. In this time I can say that the lyrics topics (talking from the beginning to these times) are about: Horror, Death and the occultist magic of the unknown

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Morbid Slaughter'?

Like adjective, Morbid means, a taste for the cruelty, the taboo, things against the moral. Slaughter, also can mean "Sacrifice". So, you have to use your Illusion, right there. If you don't want to seek a mean beyond the words, you can say: Oh yeah! You are about death and blood. That's true, but there is something more there, and you can say: It represent the sacrifice of the taboos, the liberation of the forbidden tastes, a beast that we use like a bridge between our terrenal life and our divine curse with the unknown, free will... I chose to call it: MORBID SLAUGHTER

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

We only played three times in all these years. The first and second were horrible to me, problems with sound or things like that. People always react really well with us, but I was not satisfied. In the third concert we were opening the Mortuary Drape's show. I was really excited; we sound really well and it was the first time that we present ourselves like a four band. Always was about a reckless dance with the madness, you know, Rock n roll, the voodoo rhythm of the night. I remember the guy in the cabin said to us: When the lights come on, start. Lights on and we start with a violent ecstasy.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

Yes, there are two gigs in some cities of our country. More gigs will come in the future, but until now, just two are the ones we know.

7.On past releases you have done Sodom and Bathory covers, what was the decision behind doing your own versions of these classic songs?

Nothing special. We were young, I listen (until these days) a lot of Bathory. And well, the cover of Sodom was good for us; I remember that I cut the final part of the song. These songs are from the Demo-Rehearsal 2010. I hate that demo. But it was fine to submit the band.

8.A few months back Putrid Cult released all your demos on a compilation, where you satisfied with the final product?

Yes, we are. Was something special for Europe, i mean, we have no many contact with people there by things like the expensive shipping. So, I think the compilation was good to let it know to Europe about us.

9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black and thrash metal?

They said to us good comments about our music. We are glad with all the comments.

10. What is going on with the other musical projects these days that some of the band members are involved with?

Well, Aggressive Tyrant has Profaner, they have a 7'' EP waiting for this year; Necrophiliac Sodomizer has Evil Spectrum, they have a 7'' EP waiting, too; Ripping corpse has Sexorcist, I don't know too much about they, what they go to release or things like that.

I have my own project, i mean, isn't metal – It’s Punk Rock, but it's something really strange, you know, another kind of trance, it's about the sound of the unknown at the heart of the night.

11.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

If things going well maybe you will hear first a Mini-album or maybe the Full length. I don't know, we need to hear offers and talk because we ask for artistic freedom. I see Morbid Slaughter like art, always looking for reach the beyond the limits, you know, of course, we always will be a rock band, a metal band - whatever! but I when I compose a song I don't think or care about "YEAH THIS SOUNDS REALLY OLD SCHOOL BLA BLA BLA OR YEAH THIS IS HOW IT MUST TO BE METAL AARRGH" That isn't me. Morbid Slaughter is an artistic way to express darkness.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Bathory is the biggest influence in us (As a band). But, that was in the beginning, now we know our sound, I know the Morbid Slaughter's sound, and is not about be underground or old school or things like that, It's about be Morbid Slaughter.

Nowadays I still listen Bathory, Dissection, Watain, Led Zeppelin, The Doors and bands like In Solitude, The Tower, No future, Tribulation or another bands from a different scene of a metalhead or banger.

13. How would you describe your views on Occultism?

The Occultism is something very personal in own person. I mean, the shapes that I have from my childhood took form, the exploration was always a personal desire. I saw these devils in music; the inspiration, to wander in an inner exploration. Does it have an important place in Morbid Slaughter? Yes, it does. Does it mean that we or I think that I’m a soldier of hell, 666, so fucking evil blablabla? No, it doesn't. I have my own life, but the spirit always is there, in a connection with a path where you walk.

14.What are some of your non musical interests?

Deserts, catacombs, Jungle; books, paints, movies, photography or many kinds of arts.

15.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Break on through to the other side

Morbid Slaughter/Wicca/Boris Records/2014 7 Inch Review

lundi 12 mai 2014 à 03:10

Morbid  Slaughter  are  a  band  from  Peru  that  plays  a  very  raw  form  of  black/thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  7  Inch  "Wicca"  which  will  be  released  by  Boris  Records.

A  very  raw  and  old  school  blackened  thrash  metal  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  grim  and  evil  sounding  black  metal  vocals/screams  and  the music  sticks  to  mostly  a  mid  paced  direction  for  a  little  while  before  speeding  up  a  bit  and  adding  in  more  raw  sounding  guitars  and  the  old  guitars  sound  like  they  are  lifted  off  an  underground  80's  black  or  thrash  metal  record.

As  for  the  second  track  it  has  more  thrash  elements  than  the  first  song  along  with  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  remain  true  to  black  metal  which  is  also  added  into  the  rawer  sections  of  the guitars  and  the  lead  guitars  remind  of  'Bonded  By  Blood'  era  Exodus..

Morbid  Slaughter  combine  both  first  and  second  wave  black  metal  together  in  a  very  primitive  and  raw  fashion  as  well  as  adding  a  great  amount  of  thrash  and  punk  influences  into  their  musical  sound,  the production  is  very  raw  and  old  school  sounding  while  the  lyrics  cover  witchcraft,  occultism  and  anti  christian  themes.

In  my  opinion  Morbid  Slaughter  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  old  school  black/thrash  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  7  inch.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Wicca".  8/5  out  of  10.

Abandoned By Light/On Broken And Rotted Dreams, Suicide Took Flight/Senseless Life Records/2014 Full Length Review

dimanche 11 mai 2014 à 11:55

This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from   Abandoned  By  Light   which  continues  his  raw  approach  to  depressive  black  metal  with  the  album  being  released  by  Senseless  Life  Records  in  the  year  of  2014  and  called  "On Broken And Rotted Dreams, Suicide Took Flight".

Thunder  and  rain  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  suicide  and  depressive  cries  and  screams  and  after  the  intro  clean  playing  starts  to  become  a  powerful  presence  on  the  recording  as  well  as  some  slow,  dark  and  heavy  riffing  which  also  leads  up  to  some  grim  screams  and  a  more  depressive  black  metal  direction.

Melodies  on  the  album  have  a  very  distorted  and  sloppy  sounding  feeling  to  them  which  are  also  close  to  doom  metal  at times  and  as  time  goes  on  the  guitars  start  having  a  more  upbeat  sound  to  them  and  the  music  starts  to  have  a  more  raw  feeling  when  fast  parts  start  making  their  way  into  the  tracks  along  with  a  small  amount  of  death  metal  growls.

A  good  portion  of  the  songs  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  while  the  music  does  not  have  a  great  amount  of  talent  there  still  is  a  good  amount  of  diversity  presented  on  the  album  along  with  a  small  amount  of  dark  ambient  sounds  when  synths  are  utilized  and  there  are  also  some  hateful,  violent  and  depressive spoken  word  samples  on  one  of  the  tracks  and  the  last  song  is  a  Nocturnal  Depression  cover  tune.

This  is  a  very  better  sounding  recording  from  Abandoned  By  Light  while  it  still  has  what  i  would  call  an  amateur  depressive  black  metal  sound,  the  production  is  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  depressive  and  suicidal  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  decent  sounding  album  from  Abandoned  By  Light  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  depressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Live.Hate.Die.Repent"  "Frost  At  A  Funeral"  "Life  Is  A  String  Of  Winds"  and  "Misanthropic  Black  Metal  Noise".  7/9  out  of  10.
