Old Graves/This Ruin Beneath Snowfall/Naturmacht Productions/2015 EP Review

vendredi 19 juin 2015 à 08:18

Old  Graves  are  a  solo  project  from  British  Columbia,  Canada  that  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  doom  and  folk  music and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  ep  "This  Ruin  Beneath  Snowfall"  which  will  be  released  on  June  28th  by  Naturmacht  Productions.

Acoustic guitar  playing  starts  off  the  ep  giving  the  music  a  folk  music  feeling  and  after  the  intro  the  music  gets  heavier  and  goes  for  more  of  an  atmospheric  black  metal  sound  along  with  some grim  screams  and  melodic  post  metal  style  guitar  leads  that  also  become  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  and  they  also  mix  in  the  folk  elements  in  the  heavier  parts.

When  the  music  speeds  a  bit  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  are  utilized  and  a  good  portion  of  the  tracks  are  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  slower  sections  of  the  music  are  heavily  influenced  by  doom  metal  and  the  songs  also  have  a  progressive  feeling  at  times  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  clean  singing  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts

Old  Graves  plays  a  style  of  atmospheric  black  metal  that  is  in  the  more  modern  direction  and  also  mixes  in  elements  of  post  rock,  folk  and  doom  metal  into  his  style  to  make  the  songs  more  diverse,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  melancholy,  nature  and  death  themes.

In  my  opinion  Old  Graves  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  black  metal  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Dawn  Treader" and  "This  Ruin  Beneath  Snowfall".  8  out  of  10.

Rito Profanatorio Interview

vendredi 19 juin 2015 à 05:57
1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?
RP:the band is currently writing new songs for a new production next year, after recording the second album basically we focus on the composition of new songs and in promoting our music in concerts for our country.

2.You have a new album coming out in July, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
RP.This album shows a little maturity in sound (most professional in style analogous to the recording) and compared with the first album but this album shows the consolidation of South American death metal that characterizes our bands throughout South America.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?
RP:The topics that were used for this album were death as the inspiration for the conjunction of lust and perversion, this together leads us to show all of the above as part of the rituals that are shown to us through the music and live performances

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Rito Profanatorio'?
RP:The meaning of the name is
make a difference in the minds of people who listen to us
desecrate the ears to make our music meets the purpose of the real worship, so that everyone can worship bands we idolize in the same way.
Total cult bands in South America
Real worship of the true death metal

5.What are some of the  best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
RP :the best show so far was last year with DEATH YELL the concert was excellent and we had a lot of response from the sound and the people. We can also remember with great force a concert in Quito Ecuador in 2014 the event was totally insane and bloody
Band concerts are simply destructive very much crap on stage and very angry insult pure South American diabolical noise ....

6.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released?

RP:for now we are waiting to present the new album officially in our country.
tour plans are always welcome but we will look to seal called to coordinate details of an upcoming tour

7.On the album you did a 'Hadez' cover, what was the decision behind doing your own version of one of their songs?

RP:Basically devotion we show to one of the first bands to peru true death metal.
HADEZ worship to since we started listening to these bands and the version is the demo on the altar of sacrifice .but translated into Spanish as a rare version that play live in the eighties

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black and death metal?

RP:with great response from the fans in South America and some parts of United States.
but above all greater CONNECTION it was achieved with the fans of Ecuador and Colombia after our little tour of these two countries last year.

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the bands members are a part of?

RP :current guitarist has basically two parallel projects in which he is working on new material
For my part and drummer we are only focused on RITO PROFANATORIO

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
RP:Basically we concentrate on keeping the essence of the old school and recall the old influence.
in the future as long as in all our productions as varied the theme always telling new stories every time

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
RP:The influences of music are shown in the following bands
SARCOFAGO, EXPULSER, DEATH YELL, HADEZ, SABBATH, NECROVORE

and today we have been hearing are bands

Skeletal, POSSESSION, DEMONIC RAGE (CHI) hastur (PER) profaner (PER) Nekromanteion (BOL)

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

RP: one end greetings to all readers of this rotten ZINE stay tuned to the call of eternal sacrilege and pests that vomit wave band in the coming months. Si vis pacem para bellum !!!

Valdur/Pathetic Scum/Bloody Mountain/2015 CD Review

mercredi 17 juin 2015 à 08:46

Mammoth  Lakes,  California's  Valdur  have  returned  with  a  new recording that  continues  the  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  of  the  last  release  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Pathetic  Scum"  which  will  be  released  by  Bloody  Mountain  Records  on  June  30th.

A  very  fast,  raw  and  bestial  war  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  raw  aggression  and  after  awhile  demonic  death  metal  growls  start  becoming  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  there  is  also  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

Most  of  the  tracks a re  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  some  of  the  slower  parts  bring  in  influences  of  early  90's  doom/death  metal  and  the  music  also  mixes  in  morbid  sounding  melodies,  fast  tremolo  picking  and  black  metal  screams  at  times  and  some  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  samples  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  atmospheric  sounds  can  be  heard  and  when  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  very  dark  and melodic  sounding.

Valdur  creates  another  recording  that  takes  the  darkest  and  heaviest  elements  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  to  create  some  very  unholy  and  blasphemous  music,  the  production  sounds  very  dark and  raw  yet  powerful at  the  same  time  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  occultism  themes.

In  my  opinion this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Valdur  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Impending  Doom"  and  "Morbid Emanations".  8  out  of  10.

Klamm  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  musical  style  on  this  recording  they  refer  to  as  dark atmospheric  sophisticated  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Ernte"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  Seventh  Star  Records.

Acoustic  guitar  playing  starts  off  the  album  giving  the  songs  a  progressive  and  folk  music  along  with  some  clean  singing  vocals  which  are  also  used  again  on  later  tracks  a  few  seconds  later  and  after  the  intro  melodic  guitar  leads  make  their  presence  known  on  the  recording  and  also  add  in  a  touch  of  post  rock  into  the  bands  musical  style.

When  the  music  gets  fast  it  has  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  vibe  along  with  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  are  also  very  rough  and  use  screams  while  also  having  melody  that  is  very  close  to  pagan  black  metal  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

All of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  progressive  and  post  style  of  black  metal  and  a  good  portion  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  acoustic  guitars  also  return  in  some parts  of  the  songs  and  as  the  album  progresses  the  vocals  get  more  grimmer  and  the  music  also  starts  adding  in  more  experimental  elements  into  their  style  of  black  metal  and  some songs  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  folk  instruments  and  keyboards.

Klamm  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  on  this  recording  that  is  very  modern  while  also  keeping  the  folk  elements  of  previous  recordings  while  also  adding  in  more  progressive, avant  garde  and  post metal  elements,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  abstract  personal  experiences  and  socio-critical  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from Klamm  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  the  atmospheric,  post  and  avant  garde  forms  of  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Windsaat"  "Ernte"  and  "Zahltag".  8  out  of  10.

Mother Augusta/The Burning Sun Of Despair/2015 EP Review

lundi 15 juin 2015 à 04:57

Mother  Augusta  are  a solo  project  from  Italy  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2015  ep  "The  Burning  Sun  Of  Despair".

Clean  playing  and  atmospheric  sounds  start  off  the  ep  and  a  few  seconds  later  the  music  goes  into  more  of  a  fast  and  raw  black  metal  direction  along  with  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  grim  screams  and  the  music  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  melodic  guitar  leads  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

Some  of  the  tracks  are  long  and  epic  in  length  and  a  great  portion  of  the  music  goes  for  more  of  a  melodic  and  modern  style  of  black  metal  and  clean  playing  also  makes  a  return  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to them  and  the  music  captures  atmosphere  without  ever  having  to  resort  to  synths.

Mother  Augusta  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  guitar  orientated,  raw,  melodic  and  atmospheric  sounding,  the  production  sounds  very powerful  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  depression,  solitude,  nihilism  and  love.

In  my  opinion  Mother  Augusta  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  black  metal  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Mother  Augusta"  and  "Cold  Sound  Of  Void".  8  out  of  10.
