Nameless  Void  are  a  duo  from  an  unknown  area  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  metal,  drone  and  industrial  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2019  ep  which  will  be  released  on  May  31st  as  a  joint  effort  between  Grey  Matter  and  Xenoglossy  Productions.

  Atmospheric  sounding  drones  start  off  the  album  along  with  some   ambient  style  synths  and  all  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  also  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  mostly  distorted  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  industrial  elements.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  and  one  of  the  tracks  is  more  of  an  ambient  drone  instrumental,  elements  of  noise  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  Nameless  Void  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black  metal,  ambient,  noise  drone  and  industrial  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  space  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Nameless  Void  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black  emtal,  ambient,  noise,  drone  and  industrial  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  duo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "The  Flash".  8  out  of  10.

  Hvile  I  Khaos  are  a  duo  from  Southern  California  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  cellistic  black  metal  and  ritual  chamber  music  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2019  single  "Strange  Gateways  Beckon"  which is  also  a  Tribulation  cover.

  Cell's  start  off  the  track  and  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  classical  music  feeling  along  with  some  elements  of  ritual  chamber  music.  Influences  of  black  metal  are  also  brought  into  the  song  without  the  use  of  any  traditional  metal  instruments  and  all  of  the  music  is  done  in  an  instrumental  direction.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Hvile  I  Khaos  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  metal,  classical  and  ritual  chamber  music,  you  should  check  out  this  single.  8  out  of  10.

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

We started this band in 2018 to combine our interest in second wave black metal and horror movie soundtracks.
We had a distinct idea for an unique sound with lots of organ and rough black metal. To create black horror metal with a real dark atmosphere.

2.So far you have released both a demo and a full length, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style you went for on the recordings?

Its a mixture of vintage horror soundtrack music and dark black metal like Beherit, Abruptum, Black Witchery.
There is also a small amount of improvisation.

3.The lyrics cover a lot of occult and horror  themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in those topics?

We deal with the history, occult, death and other dark topics.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Vleddermos'?

Its our own version of the word for 'bat' in dutch.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the album cover?

We went for an old school interpretation of horror and darkness. It's hugely influenced by vintage horror movie poster art.
We hope to convey a sense of dread, horror and wonderment.

6.Currently there are only 2 members in the band are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

Yes this works best for now. We have no desire to expand Vleddermos at this stage.

7.Has the band done any live shows or have any plans for them in the future?

No we have not, nor do we have plans. The live situation is not one where we would feel at home.
Our music is best listened to at night, in the dark, in private.

8.The new album was released by 'Tribulacion Productions', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
We contacted them through the internet. They are a dedicated label from Columbia, focussing on Black Metal.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?
Until now the response have been a bit underwhelming. However this will never stop our dedication to this dark art.
But we surely hope the album will pick up a bit. We put so much effort into it.

10.Where do you see  the band heading into musically during the future?
We have no idea. We hope to record more and better black horror metal.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Beherit, Abruptum, Black Witchery, Necromatia, Mystifier, Chakal, Sarcofago etc.

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?

Preparing the release, talking to great people around the world, playing few selected shows. And of course writing ever new material.

2.In June you have a new album coming out, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

- The new album Lightless Violent Chaos and its predecessors Coronation of King Darkness (2013) and Hope of Retaliation (2011) are a trilogy. What begins with the studio tracks on Hope of Retaliation, grows into full bloom on Coronation of King Darkness and then finds maturity on the new album.

3.This is your first album in 5 years, can you tell us a little bit more about what has been going on during that time frame?

- A lot of living and writing.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you explore on the new album and also how would you describe your progress as songwriters over the years?

- The sort of music we perform has some sort of “magical” essence. It touches something that is common in men. For us lyrics play a part in this and as majority of them are usually sung in English they help to open certain doors for people who understand them. Our lyrics may not preach as much as they once did – as we find it futile to try and alter other people’s perceptions of what they call the reality – but when used right, our art is a sort of immaterial talisman that can be used to transfer energy. What one chooses to do with that energy is of course beyond our control.

5.Over the years you have also covered some satanic, occult, pagan and philosophical themes lyrically, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in those topics?

- Blind crowd mentality is something we have been against ever since we recorded the song Flowing Downwards back in 1991, where the lyrics even state “fuck your herd conformity, the noble shall rule”. That might not be high-brow poetry from today’s perspective but it surely has served as our mission statement throughout the decades.

6.Originally the band was called 'Horned Lord', what was the cause of the name change and also the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Black Crucifixion’?

- We felt that Horned Lord would not be the perfect moniker for our artistic vehicle. Black Crucifixion had more edge to it. Maybe it has served us well.

7.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

- It is by Erkki Nampajärvi just like the previous album’s art was. His work is a perfect match to our sound. He gives the visuals to our audio.

8.The band has been around since 1991 what is it that motivates you to keep going after almost 30 years?

- We are a small band yet the band’s entity is a big thing in our lives. It provides certain continuity.

9.The band was also around when Finland did not really have a black metal scene, do you feel that you have been a huge influence on the Finnish black metal style?

- Probably for some people. But the latter Norwegian scene is the major influence also for Finnish bands. We had our own national style until the younger fan boys got all Norsk.

10.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

- We started really performing live only during the past ten years. So the best shows also are relatively recent. Our shows are always good, we are a very stable unit that always delivers.

11.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released?

- We only play selected shows for audiences that appreciate music. So no big time touring looms.

12.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black and dark metal?

- It has differed a lot over the decades. The new albums seem to do it for people around the world. I personally urge anyone to give it a listen. It might change your day or week if not your life.

13.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

- A lot of terrain still lies uncovered. The musical path is the one of left hand path.

14.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

- At this age and stage of the band it is very difficult to recognize any specific influences. I would say that a lot of the influence comes from outside the music. From all arts and life in general. People outside the band probably have a better view of what influences can be heard in our output.

15.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Sodomic - Almost everything, lyric themes, riffs, cover art, and of course the way that the band sounds here,  this is an album more poetic and conceptual than others.


3.Some of your lyrics cover Occult themes, can you tell us a little bit bit about your interest in Occultism?

Sodomic - We're always looking for something inside us or outside so to all this things and lack of answers I usually call it "Occultism" and I'm a person addicted on "unknown" so these themes are very important to me.


4.What are some of the other lyrical topics and subjects you have explored over the years with your music?

Sodomic - The power of human flesh, sexuality, lust, moral beliefs, etc...


5.I know that the band was named after an 'Onslaught' album, how does this name fit in with the musical style that you play?

Sodomic - Yeah the name of the band is a reference to the first Onslaught's album, I was a young kid with 18yo when I started the band and that time basically I was hearing this album all the time so the choose of the name was very natural to me, it's a classic album that had an influence in our two first records after that, the only thing in our band that reminds Onslaught is the name because our song is far far away from the song that they did back in the day, are totally different styles, and I think that the name delivery the message, the people heard or reading it and probably in the same time they know what it's about.


6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

Sodomic - The cover artwork was made by Wellington Backer a friend of mine here in Brazil since the last 20 years, the idea behind the art was to show an specie of unrealistic hell a chaos place with a terrible evil presence in the middle like a "evil supreme being" that is what the giant monster in the cover represent to us, the cover is related with all the different forms of evil torment that the humans beings have in real life and our characters have inside the lyrics of album.


7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Sodomic - It's hard to say or choose some specific shows, but our fist show in Los Angeles in 2016 was wild as all ours gigs in South America also, on stage we try put all our energy and hate feelings in that moment, the audience identifies with this and they know when it's true.


8.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released?

Sodomic - As I said before we have Mexico and U.S.A between July/August.


9.The new album is coming out on 'High Roller Records', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

Sodomic - It's a label that doesn't work with a lot of black metal bands so along side with the good proposal that they offered to us I have no doubts that this will be a good experience to both side.


10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black, thrash and speed metal?

Sodomic - I would say that the reactions are very good, we have followers in South America , North America , Europe, Asia, we get a lot of support of different headbangers around the world.

11.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

Sodomic - Beside P.F.H me, the bass player and the guitar player we have a Death Metal band and our drummer plays in a lot of different bands of extreme metal here in Brazil.


12.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Sodomic - We want to keep the released albums and touring this is the main plan for now.

13.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Sodomic - Bathory always will be for me the most important extreme metal band of all time, if I chose the name of the band inspired on Onslaught of course that the song and lyrics was totally inspired on the Bathory era 84-88, in nowadays we admire a lot bands like Mgla, Ascencion, Cult of fire, etc...
